Introduction
Looking forward to meeting fellow calligraphy enthusiasts and sharing the joy of calligraphy. Since childhood, due to family poverty, I learned Chinese calligraphy through self-study, and I was fortunate to receive encouragement from my strict family, teachers, elders, and classmates, winning awards in public competitions. Later, under the guidance of Mr. Chan Man-kit, the lifelong honorary president of the Hong Kong Calligraphy Society, I opened the door to clerical script and especially appreciate his works on the Han stele, the Shimen Song, and the Songgao Ling Temple stele, which I foolishly believe are the pinnacle of calligraphy in Hong Kong. In recent years, I also completed a diploma course in calligraphy creation at CUHK and gained some insights. I suggest that learners start with clerical script to build brush techniques and strengthen their brush power, ensuring that every stroke is executed at the center of the brush, penetrating the back of the paper. Then, progress to regular script (Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing, Chu Suiliang, Zhi Yong, Liu Gongquan, Yu Shinan, and Zhong Yao), seal script, northern stele (also known as Wei stele or Wei regular script), and cursive script. I also teach hard pen calligraphy, advocating for the practice of copying from calligraphy models.
